北京时间9月10日凌晨，2011年美国网球公开赛进入到正赛第12日争夺。在男单1/4决赛中，4号种子穆雷经过四盘激战，轰出14记ACE和47个制胜分，以7-5/6-4/3-6/7-6(2)战胜28号种子伊斯内尔，继2008年之后，时隔三年再度闯进美网四强，这也是穆雷本赛季第四次打进大满贯赛事四强。半决赛，穆雷将迎战纳达尔和罗迪克之间的胜者。

对于天气的影响，穆雷说：“风对于我来说是一个影响成绩的重要因素，如果风力比较大的话，我就需要作出更多的努力，回球力量要增大，跑动要增多，这会增加我体力的负担，另外，刺眼的阳光是另一个因素，这会影响到我的发球。”
